Brazilian President says his country will not arrest Putin if he attends G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has said that his country will not arrest Putin if he attends the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.

He stated this in an interview with First Post.

The summit will be held in this city in 2024. Putin did not attend the 2023 summit in India, and he also skipped the BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

"I believe that Putin can easily go to Brazil. If I am the President of Brazil and he comes to Brazil, he will not be arrested by any means," he said.

Lula da Silva also intends to "bring Zelenskyy and Putin to the negotiating table" at the UN General Assembly.

"We will have the United Nations General Assembly on September 19. This is the place to discuss war. This is the place to discuss peace. This is the place to bring Putin and Zelenskyy to the negotiating table," he added.

It will be recalled that in May this year, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva refused to go to Russia.
