Hungary is isolating 11 Ukrainian POWs that Russia handed over to Hungary without Ukraine's knowledge
The Hungarian government is basically holding 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war, whom Russia handed over to Hungary without Ukraine's knowledge, in isolation. All of them are citizens of Ukraine who are likely to be of Hungarian origin.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported this.
The POWs do not have access to open sources of information, their communication with their relatives takes place in the presence of third parties, and they are denied contact with the Ukrainian embassy.
Attempts by the Ukrainian side to establish a dialogue are ignored by the Hungarian authorities.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that such actions by Hungary call into question the declared motives for the transfer of Ukrainians to the country. These actions may also be classified as a violation of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
It will be recalled that Ukraine was not aware of the transfer of 11 Ukrainian POWs to Hungary.
