Right now, Russia is killing Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili with the help of the Georgian authorities — Zelenskyy
Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the health of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.
He published the statement on his social media pages.
"We have repeatedly called on the official Tbilisi to stop this mockery and agree on Saakashvili's return to Ukraine. Our partners, in coordination with Ukraine, also offered various rescue options," Zelenskyy said.
The President instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Georgian Ambassador to Ukraine, express a strong protest, and offer him to leave Ukraine within 48 hours to hold consultations with his capital.
On July 3, another hearing was held in Georgia in the case against former President Mikheil Saakashvili. He joined the hearing remotely as he is in hospital due to serious health problems.
In June 2018, Georgia sentenced Saakashvili to six years in prison in absentia in the case of the beating of former opposition MP Valery Gelashvili in 2005.
On October 1, 2021, Georgian authorities announced that Saakashvili had been detained by police.
Back in February, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Georgian authorities were publicly killing and torturing former President Mikheil Saakashvili.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry protested the inhumane treatment of Saakashvili.
The European Parliament also adopted a resolution calling on the Georgian authorities to pardon and release the former President.
