Romanian farmers stop blocking truck traffic at Porubne and Dyakove checkpoints on the Romanian-Ukrainian border
Kyiv, Ukraine (Svidomi) — Romanian farmers have ended their protest and unblocked the Siret-Porubne and Halmeu-Dyakove checkpoints, the Ukrainian Border Guard Service says.
Truck traffic is free both in and out of Ukraine. Border crossings are carried out as usual.
On January 19, Romanian farmers stopped blocking the Vicovu de Sus checkpoint, which borders Ukraine's Krasnoiilsk. However, trucks can only pass through this checkpoint empty.
Farmers and hauliers have been blocking the crossing points with Ukraine since January 13, intermittently. The reason for their protest was the heavy business losses.
On January 16, the Romanian government reached an agreement with the farmers. The agreement includes 13 demands. In particular, the government pledged to fully subsidise all agricultural excise taxes until 2026 and to immediately introduce provisions for subsidised interest-bearing loans.
