Russian troops attack a monument of national importance to Ukraine, Kamianska Sich, with bombs
Kherson, Ukraine (Svidomi) — The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine reported that Russian troops attacked the Kamianska Sich, a monument of national importance to Ukraine, with bombs. Three powerful explosions occurred there.
Kamianska Sich is located in the Kherson region. It was the administrative and military centre of the Cossacks in the 18th century. There were several such Sichs in Ukrainian history.
One of these strikes hit the very location of the former Kamianska Sich. There are still unexplored production facilities of the iron and pottery complex of the first half of the eighteenth century.
The second explosion occurred on the territory of a modern tourist facility. A lapidary with stone monuments near the cross and the grave of the Cossack Ataman Kost Hordiienko (a Ukrainian Cossack who lived around the 18th century — ed.) and the entrance gate of the Sich is located there.
"Today, Russia attacked our heritage again by targeting Kamianska Sich. It proves once again that the Russian Federation is deliberately destroying our material culture in order to erase Ukrainians as a nation," said Acting Minister of Culture Rostyslav Karandieiev.
He also says that Russia will not be able to avoid punishment and will be responsible for its crimes in international courts. The Ministry of Culture said that Russia has already damaged or destroyed more than 120 monuments of national importance.
