Hungary presents credentials to self-proclaimed President of Belarus Lukashenka
Hungarian Ambassador Zita Ilona Bencsik has presented letters of credence to the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenka.
This was reported by the propagandist Belarusian media outlet BelTA.
The ambassador will now be able to work in Minsk officially.
"Hungary is a long-standing and reliable friend of Belarus, relations with which, having passed the test of time, are being built on a pragmatic and mutually respectful basis," Lukashenka said.
Belarus also accepted credentials from Kazakhstan, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Uganda, Cambodia, the Philippines, Jordan and Colombia.
Hungary became the first EU country to take such a step after Alexander Lukashenka falsified the elections in Belarus and proclaimed himself president in 2020.
Sanctions against Belarus were tightened after Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine, using the territory of Belarus to advance into northern Ukraine.
It will be recalled that the European Parliament recognised Lukashenka as an accomplice in Russia's crimes against Ukraine.
