Romanian farmers and carriers block third checkpoint on Ukraine's border

On January 18, Romanian hauliers and farmers blocked Halmeu-Dyakove. The Siret-Porubne and Vicovu de Sus-Krasnoilsk border crossings remain blocked.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine received information about the blockade from representatives of the Romanian Border Police, but the duration of the blockade was not disclosed.

"The passage of cars, passenger cars and buses is carried out in the usual mode," the border service said.

On January 14, Romanian farmers resumed blocking truck traffic through the Siret checkpoint after a protest on January 13 that lasted six hours.

On January 16, the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and representatives of large agricultural organisations reached an agreement on 13 farmers' demands. The government pledged to fully subsidise all agricultural excise taxes until 2026, as well as to introduce provisions for subsidised interest-bearing loans.
