~Russia illegally detains 20,000 prisoners
According to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, this is the number of civilians abducted by the Russian Federation. This estimate is based on the number of appeals from relatives of abductees received by the Commissioner.
During the full-scale invasion, the National Police began investigating the enforced disappearance of 8800 people.
The Media Initiative for Human Rights has identified about a hundred places where abducted civilians are held.
The Mission of the President of Ukraine in ARC confirms 182 illegally imprisoned Ukrainian citizens, 60% of whom are Qırımtatarlar.
On June 29, a 'court' in the temporarily occupied Qirim reduced Irina Danylovych's sentence by one month
Danylyovych filed an appeal against the verdict of another 'court'. Now her illegal imprisonment will last for six years and 11 months.
It is the report of the Crimean Human Rights Group.
To recap, the Russians detained the civil society activist in April 2022. At the end of 2022, the "court of first instance" in the temporarily occupied Kefe sentenced her to seven years. The woman filed an appeal. She developed an ear disease during her imprisonment, and her hearing deteriorated significantly. The Russians do not provide Danilovich medical care and keep her in the detention centre.
On June 15, the 'court of appeal' was forced to suspend the hearing, held remotely, as the prisoner could hardly hear anything via video link. The woman's father, Bronislav Danylovych, was present at the hearing. "She was sitting in that conference room. She didn't hear the questions at all; she was crying," — he said.
Danylovych could not review all the case files due to her health condition. However, the Russian 'judges' ignored this and completed the trial. Human rights activists are demanding Danylyovych's release, as she will remain in captivity without medical care and may die.
On June 30, a Russian court extended the illegal arrest of prisoner of war Leniie Umerova
The security forces will keep the Qırımlı behind bars until at least October 2023.
The prisoner's brother Azeez reported the situation.
To recap, in December 2022, Umerova left Kyiv for the occupied Qirim as the health of her father, who lives on the peninsula, deteriorated.
She crossed the Russian-Georgian (Sakartveli) border. In 2014, Umerova refused to receive a Russian passport, so she crossed the border with a Ukrainian passport. Russian security forces used this as a reason to search her, looked through her phone and computer, and then detained her.
Until March 16, she was held in the Centre for Temporary Detention of Foreign Citizens. After that, she was abducted by unidentified persons and taken to Vladikavkaz. There, the woman was detained by Russian police. The court first arrested her for 15 days. Later, they repeated this four more times. Eventually, FSS brought the girl from the Caucasus to its detention centre in Moscow. Since May, she has been held there.
Leniie's defence appealed against another decision to extend her detention, but on July 4, the court rejected it.
Three Qırımtatarlar are in prison longer than the sentence of the Russian court
The prisoners are held in the most difficult conditions, although six months ago, they were supposed to be transferred to colonies.
Crimean Solidarity reported this.
To recap, the Russians illegally detained Arsen Abkhairov, Rustem Emirruseinov and Eskender Abdulganiev in 2019. The security forces fabricated terrorism charges against the Qırımtatarlar. In 2020, the court sentenced them to 12 to 17 years in prison, two of which they were to spend in prison.
In the meanwhile, the time the Qırımtatarlar spent in pre-trial detention centres during their trials was deducted from their sentences. Given this, their prison sentences expired six months ago, so they should have been transferred to colonies. However, the security forces refuse to do so.
Lawyer Edem Semedliayev asked the court to further explain its verdict. The judge confirmed the conclusions of the defence, but this did not affect the situation.
Prisoner Emir-Usein Kuku developed a bowel disease
Previously, it was known only about kidney disease, but when he complained, doctors found another condition and operated on the prisoner.
This was reported to Crimean Solidarity by his wife, Meriem.
Let us recall that in 2015, a Russian security officer damaged Kuku's kidneys with blows. In 2019, a Russian court sent the Qırımlı to prison for 12 years on trumped-up terrorism charges. The man does not receive medical care in the colony, which has made his kidney disease chronic, but there have been no known intestinal problems until now.
On June 21, 2023, the Russians took the prisoner to the hospital as his health deteriorated sharply. He complained of kidney pain.
However, it turned out that the pain was not caused by the kidneys but by a disordered bowel. The doctors operated on Kuku. Now his condition is satisfactory.
The 'court' of the illegal armed group 'LPR' imprisoned three prisoners of war in a week
In total, the trio received 43 years in prison.
The militants' statements evidence this.
They fabricated cases against Oleksandr Pinkovskyi, Eduard Kolisnyk and Oleksii Prylutskyi.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs register of missing persons, Kolisnyk took part in the battles for Popasna in April 2022, and Pinkovskyi was last seen in the Donetsk region in August 2022.
The militants sentenced Pinkovskyi and Prylutskyi to 14 years in prison and Kolisnyk to 15 years. All three were accused of ill-treatment of civilians. For this purpose, the militants use videos in which prisoners of war slander themselves under pressure.
