World Chess Federation bars transgender women from competing in tournaments

Transgender women have been banned from participating in chess tournaments until a further decision by the Chess Federation. The decision should be made in the near future, but no later than within two years.

This is evidenced by the Federation's new rules for the registration of transgender chess players.

At the same time, there are no restrictions on people who have changed their gender in the open section of tournaments.

Winners of women's tournaments who have changed their gender to male will lose their titles.

"If a player has changed the gender from a man into a woman, all the previous titles remain eligible," the federation adds.

The previous rating of players who have changed their gender remains unchanged. Chess players are also not exempt from penalties or restrictions that were imposed on them before the gender reassignment.

The federation has the right to put a mark in the database about the transgender transition of players to prevent possible illegal registration in tournaments.
